At the roots of virgin earth

When we started virgin earth back in the late 1970s in Northern California, logging companies were getting free rein to clear-cut 2000-year-old redwood trees. Our name and worldview grew from this environmental tragedy, and we are still driven by the desire to ensure balance and biodiversity in our lives and work. That’s why virgin earth regularly gives back by helping like-minded NPOs and other organizations express their messages. Among the organizations we support are the World Wildlife Fund, EarthShare California, San Diego CoastKeeper.org, the Earth Island Institute and Direct Relief International.

In recent years, we’ve lent our time and talents to several environmentally and socially relevant projects, including:

  • The Blue Economy—a series of videos by visionary Gunther Pauli of ZERI that introduce an alternate world economic theory which employs prosperous and sustainable business models to improve natural ecosystems and the quality of life for all.
  • TEDxTokyo 2009, 2010 and 2011—a licensed offshoot of the globally renowned TED Conference. As the filming sponsor we created HD content and connected a worldwide web audience to “ideas worth sharing,” streaming content in both English and Japanese.
  • The RED charity Love Project, which raises money for medicine for people living with HIV in Africa.
  • Providing Oxfam365.org with taiko drumbeats for a worldwide video project.
